Biometric Identification systems are systems that can identify a person by their characteristics. This is a more secure method of identifying a person as a specific person’s characteristics cannot easily be shared, traded or stolen by someone else.
The two main categories when it comes to Biometric Identification include:
- Physiological Characteristics
- Behavioural Characteristics
A good example of physiological characteristics is a fingerprint, something that cannot be changed or a retinal scan and handprint scans.
Behavioural Characteristics are things that can change with the environment or as a person age such as a signature.
Biometric devices available include:
- Access Control Systems
- Fingerprint readers or scanners
- Time and Attendance Registers
- Payroll Software
