Professional photographers are numerous when you start looking around. But how does one go about finding a photographer that is suited for you?
You may think that just any photographer will be good, they have a great portfolio, references, etc. The real question remains – will you as an individual be comfortable with this specific photographer?
How to find a professional photographer:
- Look at the website – and no, do not look at the website design as this is not part of the service of a photographer and in any case not the kind of service you are looking for. Concentrate on the images – are these the kind of photographs you had in mind when starting your search for a professional photographer?
- Look at the portfolio of the photographers, the different types of wedding photos, family photos, maternity photos, etc.
- How much information is the photographer providing?
- Prices – with mostly every business having a website these days, it is very easy to compare prices. With photography you do not want to be fooled into believing that you are getting a really low price for ‘let’s face it’ an extremely expensive service, but you also do not want to get stuck with an overpriced photographer that does not deliver. The saying goes “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.”
- Make an appointment to meet with your potential photographer, this will give you the opportunity to ask all the questions you have as well as making sure that the person you booked is actually the person who will show up on your special event (especially if it is for a wedding).
Some questions you may want to consider asking your potential photographer include:
- Is this your full time job?
- Do you provide a written / legal contract?
- Do you have a portfolio that I can go through?
- DO you bring back-up equipment for a photo shoot?
